Believed to be one of the strongest sea forts in India from yester years Murud Janjira Fort was built on an oval-shaped rock in the 15th century and was rebuilt by Burhan Khan between 1567 and 1571. Murud Janjira has 19 rounded bastions which are all still intact. There are prominent "Ashok Chakras" on all major gates of the fort. Murud Janjira located in mid sea amazingly has a fresh water cistern within.
